PPS Mutual targets Western Australia growth with fresh leadership move

Expansion meets rising demand for sustainable, transparent insurance solutions

Specialist insurer PPS Mutual has expanded its Western Australian operations with the appointment of Karena Cox (pictured) as business development manager for the state.

Cox will report directly to Steven Salter, who oversees Western Australia, South Australia, and the Northern Territory.

Strategic hire aims to strengthen adviser network

This move is part of PPS Mutual’s broader strategy to enhance its presence across Australia, responding to increased demand for insurance models that prioritise sustainability and transparency.

The company has observed evolving expectations from advisers and clients, particularly after significant changes in product offerings and remuneration practices over the past decade.

Cox’s primary responsibility will be to deepen relationships with financial advisers and grow the network of accredited professionals who distribute PPS Mutual’s products in Western Australia.

Salter said Cox’s experience in the local market and her understanding of adviser needs will support the company’s efforts to deliver value to its members.

“Karena brings not only deep experience in the WA market but also a genuine understanding of advisers’ priorities. At a time when professionals are seeking insurance solutions that are more sustainable, transparent, and aligned to long-term goals, her insight and connection to the local advice community will help strengthen support for our advisers and deliver meaningful value to members,” he said.

Professional background

Cox brings more than a decade of experience in financial services, having previously held roles at AIA Australia, HBF, and United Healthcare Group. At AIA Australia, she served as client development manager, focusing on adviser engagement and support.

Reflecting on her new role, Cox said she is committed to advancing PPS Mutual’s mutual model, which she described as focused on long-term sustainability and member interests.

“I’m looking forward to joining PPS Mutual and helping to deliver the unique benefits of the mutual offering to Australian professionals. To me, this is what modern insurance should look like – long-term, sustainable, and genuinely focused on the people it serves. It’s a proposition that deeply aligns with my own values,” she said.
